This used to be gravel just like the left side. I made it for my kids. But I'm having a blast planting things & reading up on it. Seeing them grow is very rewarding.
Rather than a structured layered look, I decided to really mix up showy specimens in a showcase-like manner. I focused on variety and varying colors.
This is only the left side.
From Left:
1. Blue Boy Holly: To pollinate female to bear beautiful Christmas berries. Evergreen therefore maintains winter interest.
2. Kousa Dogwood: Google it, they look freakin' gorgeous during bloom. They're very common.
3. Cordyline Red Star: I love exotic palms like these. I'm hopeful they're winter hardy at zone 7. They grow just like a palm tree.
4. European Variegated Dogwood: Amazing tissue-paper texture
5. Blue Princess Holly: This is the female, but I got the wrong cultivar, #1 should've been Prince, not Boy. I'm just dreading uprooting / replant / home depot trips / plant / clean up / etc.
6. Several amazing Coleus' spread out: As accents they're awesome and they're like cheating as permanent flowers with those colorful leaves.
7. Some kind of lemon crush tryhard-name Hosta. It turned really yellowish green from vibrant green. I wonder if it's SICK or maturing to reveal its true color.
8. Mountain Laurel: If you're sick of usual evergreens (cypress, arborvitate, etc), laurels are pretty good. I love their conical spread and their non-coniferous broad leaves. ALSO this thing blooms amazingly. Look it up.
9. An old fashioned Bleeding Heart Pink.
