I know it tends to bounce up and down from time to time.

I ordered 1 kit a month or so ago for $114.99 then went back to order another kit a week later and it was $149.99.

I waited a week or two and the price dropped back to $99.99. Waited another week and it hit $94.99. So I bit.

I think RAM pricing may be tied to a seismometer in Japan or something. ;)

Usually what happens (not in this case) is when something is in short supply.. i.e. Newegg has <5 in stock they will bring the price up to a level where they are making a fat profit rather than selling it out.

That is why you will see prices jump on products on release day automatically, and prices on some low supply side parts such as ram continually raise price.

I'm in the supply chain logistics business and can certainly appreciate supply and demand. And Newegg remains the best source, overall, for hardware components. But, their practice of jacking up prices on what's hot crosses the line. On one side of the supply and demand model is price gouging..

Not to offend anyone, but complacient attitudes are what The Man likes. If the man thinks he can pull it off with minimal backlash, the man will screw you.

Look at our gas prices. You think as consumers we did something different within the past few years to justify the current price on crude? Did U.S. demand nearly double? Think we're short on supply? Bullshit! Oil companies have gradually tapered the supply by intentionally closing refineries and limiting exploitation of new fields. Active, non-Middle Eastern based sources remain untapped or unused. It's Enron on a grander scale, and we, the American public have allowed it to happen. We're too busy satisfying our needs and wants to notice.

Back on topic, the problem here is Newegg and Chiefvalue are the only games in town selling this memory kit. Ncixus, the only other reseller Google would pull with a part number search just went out of stock. I'm sorry, this is not just supply and demand.

This memory sold because of its low price. G.Skill memory is NOT worth a price premium. So long as people aren't sheep and continue to buy it based off Newegg reviews or what they read on a website, the price will fall back to where it should be. There are a ton of alternatives, such as the Mushkin I found. Time to be a consumer and buy something other than this jacked up stuff..

Newegg is free to jack up prices however they want. And we, the consumer, are free to shop wherever we want. Neat, how a free market works, eh?

We now just have to guide the sheeple to alternate components or sources. :D

The most recent CPU I bought came from Buy.com (E3110 for $200 shipped) and the most recent RAM I bought came from ZZF (Ballistix $29 shipped AR). The most recent video card I bought... came from Newegg (8800GS $120 shipped AR, for a friend last month).

I always shop around, but yeah, I know of people who only buy from Newegg. I can only "tsk tsk" and shake my head.
