33. With oxygen present, the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain
a. provide organisms an alternative to glycolysis
b. produce most of the ATP needed for life
c. break down glucose to produce carbon dioxide, water, and ATP
d. all of the above

Take your time looking at the question/answer and look up some words if you need to (ref: alternative) ...
then post what you think the answer is (and/or vote in poll)
I'll give you guys what the correct answer is/what I said after a few people state their opinions, as I don't want to sway anyone's answer.

(no, this isn't like a homework question or anything.. it was on a test and I got it wrong, which I think is ridiculous)

DING DING DING!! Thats freakin' EXACTLY what I said to my teacher. I put down B, but, apparently, the "correct" answer is "D) all of the above".
Glycolysis is REQUIRED for Krebs/ETC (as they are one the 2nd stages of respiration)... there is no alternative.
And Krebs/ETC don't even touch Glucose.. they break down/use the pyruvic acid that was created as an end-result of glycolysis.
B, however, does work, so I put that down.
I didn't argue much with my thick-skulled teacher because it really didn't affect my grade (only question I got wrong.. he used the "You got a 98% what does it really matter??!" on me.. and he's right, it didn't affect my marking period grade at all).. but I still think I'm right

Were you confused what the"null: I voted too fast/I have no freakin' idea" option meant?

been a while since I did the krebs cycle, but I'm thinking it's not D which is what I voted now that I think about it. I think it's either B or C. I don't know, I'll wait for the answer

it's freaking B.

krebs and ETC are not alternatives to glycolysis, they REQUIRE glycolysis to break down carbohydrates (at least), into pyruvate. A is wrong.

krebs and ETC break down PYRUVATE, not GLUCOSE into water and CO2, and make ATP. C is wrong.

judging by how many people voted D, it looks like it is very tricky for some people. i think the wording may be confusing.

i'm still surprised most people voted D though.

is this a high school or college level class?

I recently got a question "wrong" on a physics exam. Evidently 1.56rev * 2pi rad/rev * 0.12m equals 0.59m in some professor's alternate reality. ;)
