Microsoft no longer lets you opt-out of a Windows 10 upgrade

Microsoft offers up to $200 for your PC or $300 for your Mac when you buy a new Windows 10 computer

The more I read about MS, the more I dislike their methods of shoving 10 down our throats, and the more I will resist.

Looks like I made a good call on waiting to see what happens with Windows 10 before deciding to upgrade.

I'm good with W7 Pro, thnx.

I can't upgrade because both my main computers use Windows Media Center extensively. One of them is really nothing but a sophisticated DVR.

I went to Windows Update app and sure enough Windows 10 was ready to install. When I went to details about, I unchecked Windows 10. Back on the main screen, it just says "optional" updates. But when I close the program and restart it, Windows 10 is again checked. This is BS.

Yes they have 100% spying control with 10..... THEY ARE DESPERATE to get people on it!! (Even moreso than they were trying to scare ppl off of IE6 (They cant spy on ppl with IE6 (It came out before they became so intrusive)))

Man, I got excited about that trade-in offer, since I pre-ordered a Surface Book, but it looks like I won't be eligible. Too bad.

Just like google and its OEMs have 100% spying control with android and the crapware they install, just like Apple has 100% spying control with all their devices, and what they install.

They all do it, under different names.

Linux isn't immune either, they are all trying to see what you are running, what you are doing.

The caveat is, what these companies/distros do with the information, there are both good and bad players out there.

Uhhh IE6 was a dinosaur and incapable of so many things then, let alone now. I would be utterly useless for most any modern website now. Spying had nothing to do with it, IE6 was just crap and they knew it.

Not that any other IE version isn't crap too, they all kind of are at varying levels 😛

Not moving from 7. When it expires, I'll probably go to a version of Linux.

Maybe I should go back to 3.11 and DOS LOL.

I still have my dos 6.1 on Floppy Discs--They can have them when they pull them from My Cold Dead Hands!!!

Running WIN X 10547 just fine here on the main atm and have another running regular X.

Just keep balking there guys I guess.

#1 is only for insider builds, and can be turned off. It should be opt-in, rather than opt-out, but this is how mobile platforms like Android and iOS work too.

#2 Was an honest mistake and has been fixed

#3 Microsoft giving you money for upgrading isn't bad

From these forums, cant help but notice (and now marvel at) all the screwing with the now myriad versions of MS Windows OSes.

Besides a headache, it is not at all evident what in the hell people are getting (or think they are getting) from all these MS OS flavors.

Does anyone do any actual useful work with their machines beyond 99% screwing with MS OS programming construct variations & related HCI implementations/experiments? (rhetorical)

Some people seem to think there is no reason to stick with Windows 7 over Windows 10, but the lack of Windows Media Center is a huge reason for a very dedicated minority of Windows users.

Suggestions aren't typically displayed on the system's launcher and if it's on an Insider build that means it might be on GA eventually.
