Forgot to mention that you need a DirectX 9.0 video card and that it is still alpha so it might crash.

Aha, figured it was something like that when it's called "User Experience Session Management Service" :p

I've seen some demos of it, and I gotta say I'm not impressed. Longhorn composite desktop is still waaaaay behind OS X, and the latest screenshots I've seen are simply ugly.

Yeah, give 'em a chance. I'll admit it, I'm a Microsoft fan, but I am pretty excited about something "new". :)

Comparing the current GUI to any production OS at this point is pretty much pointless. Especially considering it's not even developed far enough along for them to include it in the current alpha builds.

Windows is a business Operating System which means it's harder to update and change things without breaking all those apps that businesses are running. It's also is used by more people then OS X so it's more complicated to do such a HUGE change in the way the UI is drawn.

OS X forced people to upgrade and I do remember people complaining that it broke a lot of apps, I can't wait to hear how much complaining will occur when people realize that their old ancient apps won't run correctly on Windows 2010.

Either way Microsoft has to make the change, they can't stay with the old clunky UI it has now.

They have 18 months to go and we don't know how much is being hidden by microsoft, I'm pretty sure it's a lot further along.
