I am needing some longer speaker wire for my Logitech Z-5500's. I saw one place online where they said not to use 12ga, but use 18ga.

Any suggestions on what kind to get?

First of all, 12 gauge speaker wire is _massive_ overkill for almost all applications.

For a short run < 50', 18 gauage is fine.

Thanks! I think I'll be somewhere around a 50' run. I need to measure it tonight.

Wrong.

What's the minimum impedance on those Logitechs?

18g wire will work fine if you don't want/can't find 16g.
If I know logitech they probably used 18g or maybe even 20g with the system.
Larger the wire the less it effects the speaker, but the more it effects your wallet. The gains are often not worth the cost for something like this setup.

Those logitechs have more peak power than my b and w 8 series 5.1 HT.

Good to know.

I doubt your B&W's amplifier rates peak power to 10% THD. Probably 0.1% THD which is quite a bit of a difference.

Reminds me of an amp I saw that said 100Watts per channel, 7 channels, totaling 700Watts. Problem was it was only rated to draw max power from the AC of 325Watts. I guess they meant any three channels at 100Watts, just not all at once :)

These come bundled with 18awg wires. I thought using thicker wires for them as well when I first got them, but these speakers suck too much to make any difference even if the worst wires were used.

It depends if you're ever going to put better speakers where the Logitechs are now.

It was a bit of a joke, I just can't understand where HTIB ratings come from.

The B & W's are also 50w minimum speakers and take a crazy camp to run...currently even my sunfire is a bit stressed.
