Longer Arm for Shower Head?

Synomenon

The arm and shower head I have now is this:

I was given this new shower head:

The arm that's there now I feel is too short and I want the new shower head further out / into the shower space. Would it be safe to replace the short, existing arm (I believe it's a 7" Delta Shower Arm) with a 10" or 12" arm?

Sorry if my post was confusing. I was only asking for opinions on whether the new shower head would be ok to use with a longer arm.
