I have long weekend in January, February, and March I'm trying to fill. Basically it's fly out Thursday evening and return Monday sort of deal because of my daughter's school and my work schedule. So that pretty much limits me to North, Central, and South America locations. Thoughts on Lima, Peru? Is Lima itself worth visiting for the weekend? I can't do Machu Picchu because of the short time constraint. Right now I'm thinking Lima, Peru, one weekend, Bogota, Colombia, for another, and Aruba for final. Any other places I should consider? Quito, Ecuador?

Stay home and ask your daughter what she wants to do. Then do it.

If she wants to ride a pony, you go and you get her a pony.
(Or rather, you get her to a pony, but you know what i mean)

And she gets to stay up late and watch ANY film including scary ones and she can have all the ice cream she can eat.

Now that's a holiday.

Peru seems very far away for that amount of time. You're in Atlanta, right? Try Belize. It's 3-4 hour flight from ATL IIRC, and there isn't a whole lot of stuff to do there anyway--well, that depends on what you like. There are tons of kick-ass Mayan cities to explore, and it could certainly take a week or more. There is also the resorty areas of Ambergris Cuay where you can just chill and relax on some the best beaches in the world. They also have the second-largest coral reef in the world.

Do NOT go to Canada. We did that and got placed in immigration hold for 4 hours because they did not believe anyone would fly in there for the weekend.

I always ask my daughter's input for our vacation travel. She's the picky one. She already gets to do pretty much anything at home. We're only talking about one long weekend trip a month. I'm planning these trips around her school calendar so she won't miss any school days. She wants to drink hot chocolate with cheese. So that's why I have Bogota on the list. She saw it on some Youtube video about Colombia and wants to try it. We didn't see hot chocolate with cheese while we were in Cartagena last month. I know they have it in Bogota.

Yes, I'm in Atlanta. Lima, Peru, is about 6 hours 45 minutes direct flight from Atlanta. Delta flies nonstop from Atlanta to Lima. So the flight isn't horrible. I'm willing to put up with anything under 8 hours. And Lima is in same time zone so that's helpful too.

I looked at Belize but it's around $1,000 per person for nonstop Delta flight for the weekend I need. Aruba is about half that price so it's hard to justify spending 2x on airfare for weekend beach trip.

Canada requires eTA if you're not US citizen. Is that what you're talking about?

Costa Rica maybe? Near Liberia are some great beaches and resorts in the Playa Mananzillo and Playa Hermosa area. I think there are some great non beach options out of San Jose. We've not been yet but I did a fair bit of looking as we almost went last winter
