long time to log in on laptop

I've got a Lenovo T400 with Win XP SP 3 for one of our users. When he tries to log on without it being connected to the network, it sits at the login screen for about 2 minutes before actually logging in.

He enters his password and clicks ok and the login window is all grayed out and just sits there for 2 minutes. After that it logs in right away.

If he's connected to the network via ethernet, it logs on right away.

It's a brand new laptop, just set it up and gave it to hm last week.

Any ideas?

It's trying to find your domain controller and since you aren't on a network it's taking a while. You can force it to do the same thing while connected to the network by changing your DNS servers so that you can't find your DC by name.

i have like 6 other people using laptops where this doesn't happen under the same conditions. If i log into my work laptop at home, it logs in right away.

Sorry to go OT somewhat, but my job is rolling these suckers out real soon. I have one right next to me and feel that the quality is mediocre at best. We have a 3 year turnaround and I feel these wont last 1 year let alone 3. What are you opinions on them?
