I have to disagree again.

How does this sound to you.

3000+ Winchester at 2.7 Ghz

Twinmos UTT @ ***3.4V, 250 FSB.

SLI 6600GT's, overclocked, sold the other 6600gt, using one now.

everything you got is low power and the ram does'nt use 12V but 3.3 or 5 depending on board

Winchester@2.7 is only about 75W try an X2 @ 2.7 which is 155W
6600GT is only 65W try an 7800GTX which is ~95W stock and 120W OC
How many HDD's one? Try four raptors @ 30W each

Right there is 32A...where you gettin that from on these dual rails? think about how they are separated and where the power goes.

Raptor, 2 other 7200 rpm drives.

two 6600GT's guess that brings me past 7800GTX power consumpsion doesnt it??

I'm sure I could run an X2, cant tell you first hand though.

Like I said before, your single rail PSU's are like one large hose feeding a plant while my Dual railes are like two smaller hoses that feed the plant.

Both plants get the same amount of water.

Dual rail powers my DFI Ultra-D > SLI mod jsut fine.

Think I should pencil mod my Ultra-D? I'm bored and have nothing else to do to my system.

It will boot up as the SLI version after the mod is complete.

Quick and easy, has been working for me great the past few months.

When I did it, it was hard to get SLI bridges, newegg carries them now.

Thing is, I'm almost positive I'll never SLI anything. My video card purchasing patterns entail trying to get a <$200 card to perform close to a $400 card, and so far over the years I've succeeded. I don't think I'd be able to snag any SLI setup for $400, but I'm just interested in doing the mod because I think it would be fun. I've never done a hardware mod before.

Use a #2 pencil and it should work perfectly.

We set the jumpers to SLI, attached the top bridge from an SLI board, since the Ultra boards do not ship with an SLI bridge, and fired up the system. The system was immediately recognized as an SLI chipset on boot and in Windows XP by our latest 71.40 Forceware drivers. Our little bit of very easy modification had "turned" the Ultra chipset into SLI. We no longer had driver limitations and performance was now exactly the same as the performance that we achieved with a normal SLI chipset.

We also tried modifying an Ultra to SLI with an ordinary #2 pencil. It worked perfectly, and with there being so much room around the set of resistor pads, you don't have to be that neat. If you close the pads, you have converted the Ultra to SLI. Those of you who remember Athlon XP modding for CPU speed will recall how close the sets of pads were in that mod. This required masking and careful painting of the pads to be closed. With the Ultra to SLI mod, there is huge real estate around the resistor on which you are working. As a result, even "all thumbs" modders should have an easy time with this one.

Just follow the steps in the link above.

Thanks, but one more question...did you use a #2 pencil to achieve the mod? I would go with this one since it seems the most reversible and harmless (plus, everyone has a #2 laying around). I'm assuming I "draw" around the resistor pad, leaving a residue of graphite? Or do I grind up a tip of a pencil and cover the pad with that?

LOL!
Wow, what a controversy over power supply. Anyhow, my HDD corrupted again today and this time I had to reinstall Windows XP. Will make the 2nd HDD the master this time and see if the other HDD was the problem. Still, I've got the new system on the way... Will be nice to heavily multitask without the slow response that I'm used to.

BTW, my present power supply is 600w OCZ. I will sell that on EBay with my case to defray my costs.

Should not be a problem reinstalling my prior OEM Monarch Windows XP Pro on to the new system, I hope.

I am gettting lazy in my old age not building from the ground up. This is my third prebuilt.

The thermaltake Xaser III case has s lot of cooling fans including blowhole at top. Cooling should be an improvement over my Lian Li - which was very quiet but hot.

Damn, wish I'd ordered this Thursday as Monarch will not even see the order til Monday, probably. Sigh...

Oh yeah, edited the OP to show the 2 gb of OCZ memory I somehow deleted from the post.

HDD corruption is either from a non working agp/pci lock or you have ram errors...not likely the cpu and power....

The OCZ 600 is fine...expensive no doubt...

So in lieu of just a bad HDD, I was suspecting the motherboard as being the root of all this HDD corruption. I thought if I'm buying a new motherboard, darn it, just replace the CPU and memory as well and get the X2 I want. The OCZ PS was expensive, yes.

I have (had actually, Duvie now has one) 2 X2's Both powered by Antec 380 watt PSU's, one is a single rail 380, the other is the new dual-rail 380. Both overclocked to 2560. One also with a 6800GT ! And I have a witness, Duvie !

I've been working with a group of Canadians the last year, and they use that phrase all the time, or "bang on". I hadn't heard that phrase much before then. Here in Texas we'all don't talk like that:). I guess it's really more of a Brittish phrase? Cheerio, pip pip, and all that rot

Gag me!
This weekend downtime at Monarch is killing me. I want them to build my system and then I want them to send it to me now! Why oh why do I order electronics on late Fridays? ANhyhow, my PC glitched again today, but was able to hard reboot without serious repair to HDD other than chkdsk. Getting very old.
Anybody ever look at Extreme Overclocking Forums? very nice site that I've never seen before - very, very well organized.

Gotta love dual core processing. Am able to play games, and encode DVD to Divx without slowdown. I'm in heaven! MY system box is cool to the touvh unlike my hot Prescott case. Even my non-techie wife has commented on how much cooler the case is on the new system. I am very , very pleased.

MC bill showed up yet? If not, you still have time to become a Super Stud! She'll forget about the Bill and that thing you did 6 months ago that you totally forgot about.

Gratz on the new Rig. Dual Core definately rocks. I debated with myself for a week before finally ordering mine. Since I started using my x2 I haven't regretted it once.
