by any chance, have you ever bought any used socks off ebay?

That's terrible. Ebay is for buying fake stuff like SD cards.

I have a similar problem, I just stretch out the opening a lot before putting them on.

Hmmm I think I will be on the look out for a pole like device that can accomplish this instead of throwing them out.
