Long shot question... Joystick problem with game

Hey people, I'm in need for some assistance here. I have a Logitech Wingman Force 3D and I'm running the game, Starlancer by MS under Win98SE with the latest DirectX drivers. It does NOT seem to want to use my joystick during the missions or training sessions. It just doesn't work in the game. I also cannot select the buttons in the config screen. When I exit the game, I can't go into the Controller Setup under the Control Panel and when I get into the Wingman utilites to see it's calibration it's basically frozen. I've tried everything to my knowledge to try to fix it which includes, reinstall the game, recalibration and reinstall the drivers for joystick. I'm out of ideas... any ideas anyone?
