When I was in Middle/High school I trained in tae kwon do. Now that I'm 30, I'm looking to get back into it.

I'm not looking for a traditional MA dojo. I can do without all the bowing and forms.

So, anyone in the KC area have any recommendations?

I received my 1st degree black belt. Shortly after that, I became bored with TKD and much more interested in girls and cars. :D

i gave up to concentrate on basketball and golf. unfortunately, i didn't catch any coach's attention due to playing for a small high school (400 students.)

i had nothing to do but to play for several club teams.

I'm sure people in KC train MMA but ATOT'ers? I don't seem them as the "MMA" type, let alone training! lol good luck, I wanna get into MMA but I'm old and not in KC so I'm not help to you sorry.

go on sherdog.net, a lot of asshats on their forums but if there's gyms in KC somebody on there will know

you're 30? humm I'm only 33, maybe I'm not too old to train. How about this, you find a gym out there, I'll go to one in Cali and in a year we can have a match.

battle of the ATOTers, we could stream video of it, 2 30+ year olds with limited training would make for a real exciting fight lol.

My Cousin is in Grandview, MO, just came back from Iraq (Navy SEALs) and is about to start training full time for MMA. I think he is going to move to California first though because he didn't like the training in MO.

I know this doesn't help at all, but I brought it up because I'm just amazed I actually know someone who is wanting to do MMA and that there is an ATer wanting to do it as well. Personally I think you're all fucking crazy. :p

I don't plan on competing. Mainly because I don't feel like getting my face smashed. I just want to learn and spar. Get back in shape while I'm at it.

That would be hilarious.

It's never too late to start learning and exercising. If you wanted to compete, then you'd want to start a lot younger.

I dunno Kimbo Slice is like 34 and just gettin into MMA, I know he had a lot of backyard brawls but professionally he has only a few MMA fights and has been training for like 16 months. You could be the next Kimbo slice, he made 200k his last fight not bad money :)

For someone who hasn't had a background in MMA to become a star as popular as Kimbo would be next to impossible. Good luck though!

if misle & I fight live on ATOT we could become internet stars, just like Kimbo, then we could get signed by a legit MMA org and make a KILLING! I know Kimbo has that whole "big, black bad ass with a beard" which probably helps him. But the era of geek MMA is soon to explode!

just watch, I'll be @ UFC 100 fighting with OMGWTFBBQ! on the back of my shorts.

Most of the MMA studios popping up are taught by hacks. Many of the pro-dojos have already been teaching MMA as one displine has never worked ideally in true self-defense.

One has to figure out what they are really looking for though.

If you want to be the baddest ass out there, you are going to need to be a part of a dojo with full-contact happening; at least at the upper ranks. Yes, it's going to hurt sometimes.

If you want to be able to show up at a LAN party and beat up the dude that camped you, then being able to throw a decent kick and punch is probably more than adequate.

Someone on AT vs. Brock Lesnar who has already established himself as a star from being on WWE is a big stretch and big difference. Not only that, he has real, actual wrestling background/training from college. That helps tremendously within MMA. HUGEEEEEEEEEEE difference.

This guy speaks the truth. Every karate dojo that you used to see are now claming that they teach "MMA" just due to the fact that it's gotten so popular.

I train with the Onzuka twins in Hawaii. One is a black belt under Relson Gracie. Definitely do your research if you're looking to actually get into MMA and compete.

check out www.jkdwednite.com and check out their affiliates page. They list a guy in KC. Can't speak for that guy specifically but the group on the whole is really good and theyre more the tee-shirt and sneakers kind of fighting. no outfits or complex bowing or katas or anything like that.
