I just built a new PC... Intel 975xbx2 mobo, E6600 dual core, patriot 80 mhz ddr2 RAM. I'm running windows XP home edition.
Everything has been running great for about a month until today when I installed a few programs. The first was an old game Mirosoft Midtown Madness. I installed it out of boredom to see how it would run.. the other was an old audio software program I don't use anymore called Cakewalk pro audio 9 which I installed cause I thought I might need it for something.
After installing those two programs upon restart or powering down and turning back on, there's about a minute long pause at a black screen with a cursor that doesnt blink.. then it finally goes to the intel screen, then the windows startup screen, ect. I have no clue whats causing this. I tried doing a system restore.. nothing, uninstalling the two programs, nothing, then system restore again after uninstalling.. nothing. I'm also experiencing the occasional flying mouse (mouse jumps around for a second every once in a while).
This computer has never been on the internet (strictly for audio use) so I know its not internet related. My only hunch is that perhaps installing the second audio software caused some kind of conflict with Pro Tools (my current software). When I uninstalled Cakewalk it said there were shared files that it could delete and I opted to leave them to be safe.
Any clues here? I'm completely confused...
