Long (or even recently) Past Staffers?

Every once in a while and old thread pops up with some old names, some of which are staffers who haven't posted in many years. Is there a time frame to de-rank them? Or are they just left for posterity, or maybe in case they come back?

And now I see a recently active staffer who is suddenly greyed out and lined through.
