I have 2 Western Digital Hard Drives in a master slave setup on my IDE Primary Channel. The Master is a 30 GB with a 10 and a 20 GB partition, and the slave is an 80 with 2 40 GB partitions. I have them on the same cable, a rounded IDE 133. On the IDE Secondary Channel I have 2 Lite-On Burners in a Master Slave setup. The DVD Burner is my master and the CD Burner is my slave. Those are both attached using a IDE 133 Ribbon. For awhile, read just after XP install, they worked just fine. The machine booted quickly. Now It will hang at the POST splash screen for about 2 minutes or so as it reads 'Detecting IDE Devices'. If I hit delete to enter BIOS it will sit there until the drives are detected and then enter into BIOS... any ideas as to what could be causing the issue? Please see sig for other system info

Try disconnecting all drives except one hdd, see if one is causing the prob -
enable only one device at a time.
Reboot = post the result

run chkdsk on the drives ASAP, there is corrupted data on one of them. 90% of the time this fixes this issue. especially applicable if you get "unmountable boot volume" BSODs or "no boot device" errors.

see this thread for more info on the procedure.

I'll run chkdsk first and then try unmounting them... thanks for the advice....
