Depends on how the car has been maintained and how it will be maintained.

Could be a week, a month, a year, a decade....

45 freeway miles is a lot better than 45 city miles. Freeway miles are much easier on the car in general.

When I worked as a cake decorator, I was driving 45 minutes to work and another 45 minutes back home. My car as 70,000+ miles on it, and it did well.

i fail to see why it would eff up the car. There are plenty of cars with 2x that mileage that are still running.

I'm sure that would take a bigger toll on me than it would my car. That's a long way to drive to help make somebody else rich. (Why do you think the sign says HELP wanted? ;) )

WHat kind of car? How well have you maintained it?

My 91 Accord LX is still running fine till today with about 170k miles and origional clutch, only problem we've had is a piece of plastic breaking that guides a window, cheap and easy fix

2000 VW GTI. its mostly highway driving...but some of it (~20% would be thru a city) would be stop and go driving. i take pretty good care of it. is it better to drive 40 miles all on the highway or 2 miles of stop and go driving where the car doesnt even get to warm up properly b4 reaching the destination (my current job)

Bought new 2003 maxima in early june with 200 miles on it.

I drive to KC and back from Lawrence 5 days a week and the occasional 3 hour drive to the inlaws on the weekend. I dont know exactly how far that is though.

I checked today. 20,988 miles on the car..

EEK.

On my previous vehicle, I used to commute about 60 miles a day when I lived in South Carolina. I bought a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder brand new and put on about 240K in ten years without any problems. I bought a slightly used 2002 Nissan Pathfinder last fall with around 25K and have put around 12K on it so far. It has been a great vehicle so far.

It would be better on the car to drive 40miles at a constant speed than a stop and go traffic. You should have less wear on your powertrain.

Racked up close to 300 miles/day on a 88 Subaru (4 days per week) for 6 months. Vehicle had 120K on it before I started the commute.

Vehicle survived on oil changes once per month. Lasted until I unloaded it prior to relocation
