Long delay in Outlook?

When I setup outlook at school and at work it takes a long time from the point of entering your user name/password to viewing your mail.

Any suggestions?

What version of OUTLOOK?

Are you connecting to and EXCHANGE SERVER or
is this a ISP (AOL, Earthlink, etc...) account?

What OS?
