Long connection delay after reboot

I get this long delay before my connection screen loads up everytime I reboot from WinXP. I am using Raspppoe to connect to my dsl provider (sbc). I would usually have to wait a minute or two before the connection thing loads up. Any reason why this would be happening? I did a fresh format too.

Gah, there was a thread about it and somebody said to add a command or line to a file to make it stop looking for a connection at startup, but I cant remember what it was or who it was.

I use SBC also (but I use Enternet 300 to connect) and I sometimes experienced this delay

What was the thread called? I added the connection shortcut to my startup folder so it loads everytime I reboot.

my xp does this too....well, not after reboot, and i'm on a cable modem...but when i turn on the pc, once the desktop loads up its a good 2-3 minutes before the connection seems to "establish", ie, i can't open up a browser or IM or even do an ipconfig for a couple minutes. i'd be interested in a fix too!

same problem here, but i'm on W2K pro. i rarely reboot, but when i do, it just bugs.

Sounds like the same issue I have. My desktop loads, then there is a delay of a minute or 2, then there is a buzzing sound that sounds like the floppy disk drive activating and then I am able to connect. It's annoying, since I get from reboot to desktop in a very quick period of time, but then have to wait around.

Yea it makes it hard for me to test out settings and stuff having to wait 2 mins after every reboot.

Try to disable Workstation service (Start -> Programs -> Admin. Tools -> Services). Worked for me when I had a similar problem.

I used to have the same problem too. A few months ago I finally got it fixed thanks to the help from some fellow AT'ers. Here is the thread. Just look it through, and it should tell you how to do it. Good luck!

not only did the link solve my slow bootup, but it also solved my slow shutdown as well! you're the man!!!

This worked for me. But the 2nd one worked even better!! (much faster)
