i recently put in a temporary motherboard to run my system and when i try to put in my 6800GT, it gives me 1 LONG BEEP, just one long beep and doesnt stop until i power it off. i put in my ATI9600xt and its fine? you guys think my card could be bad or maybe this motherboard cant handle it cuz its a cheap pos? lol

Also, i never had a problem with my older motherboard, it was an asus P4SD-VX

I may have possible damaged the card but from what i know, and correct me if i'm wrong, 1 long beep is usually caused from a ram error not a video card so i'm not really sure right now, maybe some settings in the bios need to be adjusted?

Almost all the parts were from a sony vaio thats why its no name ram and the asus motherboard, well its not really your average everyday motherboard, it sux! =/ plz help me brainstorm
 
Sounds like the 6800 is drawing too much power for the PS to handle, and the memory won't run properly. What kind of PSU is it?

EDIT: Since the motherboard is a low end one, that might support my theory - it might try to run, but not push enough current to the memory, instead of not running at all when power was insufficient.

If there's no video card, most boards will boot with no error beeps, but you won't see anything on the screen. Windows might give an error too, but how would we know? 😉
 
I had this exact problem. I know it happens when you do not have the power cable(s) hooked up correctly on the vid card. I believe it needs two connectors but I am not sure. I do remember it is something about it not getting enough power though. Research threads from about mid August was where I saw it I think. Mid to late August because someone else had the exact same problem the week I built my system and I knew what to do. Hope this helps. I know=horrible syntax.
 
Sorry, the above thread does not sound right. It is a problem with the power connection to the card. I believe it needs two and you forgot to hook up one. If it only needs one then you hooked it up incorrectly. I'm sorry I do not remember exactly what it is but it is one of the two. (I lean towards the former).
 
yeah, sounds like the power connector isn't plugged in, mine was doing then when I forgot to plug the power connector in to my 6800GT
 
ROFL GUYS, HOLY SH1T. LMAO i should hit myself repeatedly, seriously how the hell do i miss this... i mean i feel soo dumb right now. roffle i never connected it to the psu, LOL wow

oh and btw if ur just dying to know, i got an aerocool 550w psu, pretty reliable so far i like it ;o
 
no need to feel dumb, as I said, I did the same thing the other day. The agp slot on my motherboard sits so low, it gets in the way of my hard drives, so I had to unplug the connector from my video card, to plug in a loose SATA cable, and forgot to plug it back in.
 
go to your mobo's webside, there's usually a manual on each sound the bios makes when the comp. is booting(or not booting)..
