Made the trip down to Lone Pine, CA this past weekend to run in a very strange autocross like event. This is the 41st year that the event has been run.
The event takes place on an abandoned WWII airfield, opposite the Manzanar Japanese internment camp. The surface is 2" deep asphalt, but over the many many years has degraded quite badly. It's covered in cracks, weeds, dirt, gravel and various other "things". This makes the driving quite tricky since the grip is very very variable from place to place.
Anyway, for next year it might be something for California people to think about. It's a fun event, but it is hard on tires (I left my track tires at home for this reason) and your car's paint if you don't protect it.
Here's a video of my mistake ridden second run (it is tough to learn the course with only 3 runs) I made on Sunday. Sadly I don't have a video of my third and final fastest run because I put the camera in my buddies car.

There were quite a few people running stock classes (like me), but some of the classes only had 1 or 2 people in them. Thus, those groups were lumped into a combined PAX group.
