Approximately 32,000 people with 6800/X800s compared to over 400,000 with GF4s and 9600/9800s. This amazes me.

Makes all the arguments we have (e.g. "You've GOT to have SM3!" and "You've GOT to have 3DC!") seem somewhat inconsequential. Apparently the public at large is still gaming with last year's hardware.

On the other hand, I suppose it could make the arguments more important as apparently 90% of the market hasn't chosen yet.

I wasn't surprised, most still use Intel IGP 🙂 The sub $100 market is where the volume sales have always been for add-in. Judging by the HALO2 sales numbers it is evident most would rather game on thier consoles than PC given the option anyways....

Um, duh? $300+ graphics hardware is never going to be more than a fraction of the market -- at least not while you can get an entire relatively fast computer (sans ultra-fast gaming video card) for $500, or a very capable game console for $150.

Whatever, Mathias. I knew the high end market was small, but to see actual numbers like this is eye opening.
Thanks for the attitude though, just thought it was interesting.

OH NOES!

yea i found it intresting to look at the numbers. SO many people have gf4 mx400's and the mx440's.. its crazy

Not that crazy when you consider that's the stock crap Gateway, Dell, HP, etc... were all sticking in their shelf machines a couple years ago.

This shouldn't be very surprising. Gamers and enthusiasts have long understood that they're a tiny slice of the overall pie. I did find it surprising that over 20% of users have Radeon 9600s and 9800s. Those are pretty decent cards, even today. I kind of expected to see a higher percentage of onboard video chipsets though.

Why is this surprising? Aren't almost all the new midrange end offerings PCI-E? I mean, how many people even have a motherboard capable of using those cards. We're just seeing nvidia's new midrange stuff come out in AGP now. And does ATI even have anything for the AGP market yet from its new lineup?

I didn't really expect that many people to be buying top of the line stuff...most people go for the "sweet spot" in all hardware because top of the line offers only a small increase of that at an extreme extra cost. Highend stuff doesn't sell that well, because there aren't even that many enthusiasts who'll buy a $400 video card every time it comes out.

Not to mention, this is pre-christmas right?

I was actually surprised the 9800 and 9600 series were so popular. Old GF4 were up there too.

Check out the figures for Radeon 9600/9700/9800 series and GeforceFX 5600/5700/5900 series. It's almost total domination by ATI. Backs up what ATI and Nvidia have been saying.

yes ATI has sold a ton of 9800 cards in the last few months with all the sales. For most people even that cost is a bit of a stretch.

"Unknown 21,049 2.07 %" ......... Are these the hardware enthusiasts?🙂

Interesting x-section of hardware. I cannot believe that some of the listed cards can even play the game.
