I had a debit card that got stolen back in May. It was canceled as soon as I found out and I have documentation from the bank to prove it.

Got an email today from some Extreme Media / Hacker's Catalog saying that I apparently bought a $595 USB CC reader/writer. Whoever it was – good job dipshit, that card was canceled ~7 months ago. Good luck getting it approved.

I don't think I should be worried... my bank hasn't alerted me to any fraudulent charges and my online banking info shows nothing fishy so I'm assuming everything will be just fine.

I'd triple check to make sure the card was cancelled, I've had two different major banks 'cancel' a stolen debit card and issue me a new one and both times they left the old fucking number tied to the account. GG Citi and Chase.

Yep, nothing to worry about at all...

Except for how they got your e-mail address?

So a company that sells credit card readers and has hacking in their name... wonders how a purchase was made using a fraudulent debit card? Oh the irony

yeah, because your email address wasnt compromised either.

My guess is that my card was compromised via an online purchase. I was always careful when I used it in person and made sure that no one did anything fishy with it, so I would imagine that someone at some online store stole my info... which included my email.

You tried to get a dual Xeon for $26 at Dell?

What does your email have anything to do with a old card #? Was the last 4 of the card listed in the email? I am betting it is more of a case that someone typed the wrong email?

Happened to me about 3 years ago about 4 days before x-mas. I was planning on starting my gift shopping that day when I found that I had -$600 in my account.
