I was walking around a mall today and saw this, had to take a picture in case no one will believe me.

So, that works out to be about $136,540 USD (Or $172,600 SGD). For a 1.4TSi convertible... Volkswagen.

LOL indeed.

Is it the hipster edition with douche package?
Comes with a apple product prolly
No, but it does come with a Certificate of Entitlement (basically a license to own a car), which right now cost about $70K SGD for a freaking license. That's because they have to control the number of cars on the road.

Still, after you take away the $70K for the COE, the stinking Golf is still ~$100K. LOL @Singapore.

I don't want to live anywhere where things are so freaking congested and overpopulated that there's not even room for cars. No thanks.

Singapore is 710 square km. There is no room for cars, thus the heavy tariff on them.
Actually, it's common in most Asian countries for the heavy tariffs (YOU HEAR THAT AMERICA? FAIR TRADE MY BUTT). But, Singapore is special with the added cost of COE, as any given time, there should only be about 1.1 Mil cars on the road. The COEs are bid upon, and price fluctuates depends on the availability of cars scrap. Cars are supposed to be scrapped 10 years from the time they're purchased (or send to other countries to resell).

The point of this thread is that us Americans can laugh at the rest of the world, while enjoying our (still) cheap luxuries.

Suck it world!

That's insane. Almost as much as my house. I would hate to know how much a house cost's there.

I'll stick to Canada where we have like 1 square km per person tyvm. 😛 Sometimes I forget how well we are here.

Yeah, Canada and the the United States, probably two of the most privileged countries on earth despite our flaws.

If you're not a Singaporean citizen, you need to be multimillionaire in order to purchase something. As for Singaporeans, about 90% of them live in affordable government subsidized housings called Housing Development Board (HDBs).

These HDBs are built and managed by the government, and as a Singaporean, you can purchase a unit twice in your lifetime, once every 50 years.

As much as the Singaporeans whine, their government actually takes care of everything for them, and in the most efficient manners.
