right now the loudest thing in my comp are the fans on the MB and the vid card. I'm thinking of replacing them because im a noise freak. are replacements quiet? I have a soyo dragon+ and a ati radeon 8500le.

The Radeon fan should be making little to no noise, I'm sure there is a quiet replacement for the mobo fan though, just not sure where to find one.

Hard to imagine either would be audible with the case together, but so be it. No idea about the video card fan, but the MB fan....I ran my blue orb at 7v for awhile, basically silent then. Might be an option. Both fans you mention are probably around 40mm, right?

Are you SURE it is the mobo and vid fans? I have an 8500LE, it is pretty much silent. The loudest things in a system are, in order: CPU fan, power supply fan(s), case fans, hard drive.

But go with oldfarts idea, use a heatsink on the chipset to replace the mobo fan.

haha

actually its near impossible to hear it, but it is the loudest thing in my case.

I was wondering about those kits at newegg for vid cards and such. how do those fans stack up in noise?

If you are taliking about an (x)ORB cooler, they will be louder than what you have now.

Motors make noise. Remove motor. Remove tiny heatsink. Install large heatsink. Ahhhh.

Big ol' CPU heatsinks are virtually free if you do not already have one. Then you just need a thermal compound and either some Kooky Glue (TM) or a clamp.
