I have a PS2 thats a little over a month old. Well is it normal for the PS2 to not load retail games sometimes? It just happend once with Jak and Daxtor(hit reset and it loaded perfect). Also in J&D(retail new) it pauses the game every now and then on its own for some reason. I have played about 4-5 hours of J&D so far and it has paused on its own about 3 times. It doesnt do this in other games.

On my friends PS2 it pauses every now and then playing road rash 3D(PSX). Should I be worried should I try and get a exchange? I exchanged it once because the first one wouldnt load some of my games. I bought it from Wal-Mart and still have the receipt I just hope they don't give me any troubles as long as I had it. Even though they do have a 90 return policy.

Mine never did that... but it's like 1 week old though.. maybe you should look into replacing the harware or maybe it's just the disk thats skratched or something?

Is your J&D disk scratched at all? Any dust?

If the disk is clean and good, try it in someone else's PS2, or exchange the disk for another one if its not too old and you have the reciept.

If you are worried and can exchange, you might want to do that... I'd check the disk first, personally.

My PS2 has been fine since launch (Oct 2000) although I'm getting a little worried as I rented Rat Race on DVD and it couldn't read the disk at first, then was fine. Last night we rented AI (disk was clean and scratch-free) and it took 6 tries to get the disk recognized, then it was all jittery and pausing for the 2nd half. Might be a DVD driver thing...

Take it back. Sony's wonderful warranty is only 90 days (!). My PS2 crapped out with the same problem after 5 months... thank god Walmart allowed me an exchange anywho.

BTW, i've been told part of the reason for this is if you leave your PS2 in standby mode. When you are finished playing, turn it off via the switch in the back. 3 months later and I haven't had a problem with my new one.

seriously? I heard you should only power completely down if you are planning on being away from it and not playing for a long time.

Thats what i've heard. The person that told me usually doesn't lie to sound smart, and he does work in an electronics store...

I think Wal-Mart should give me a exchange without any problems. My friend(same guy who had the pausing problem) took his back for a refund after having it a month and a half. Wal-Mart gave him a refund.

I know Wal-Mart will come closer exchanging than they will refunding.

LOL I just exchanged my PS2 and the laser in it is working much much quieter. BUT when I went to plug the power in the switch and all went in just a tad. Not much but still I didnt notice this before. Prob a loose screw. Man if it wasnt for bad luck I wouldnt have any at all. Now I am deciding if I should take it back again

Should I run it in standby or no? Also is it safe to just power down with the game going(hold reset way no from the back) and leave the game in there? One last thing think the power switch will be ok?

i always power down all the way.... had it since december and its been running fine doing it this way.
i'm not positive.. but i'm pretty sure the manual actually says leave it in stand by mode.. So i guess in the end it doesnt really mater what you do- what ever is easiest for you. :)

Been running it in standby mode unless I'm not using it for a while for almost 6 months, haven't had any problems with it except when the disk is dirty.

I must be the only person who still thinks that PS/2 threads will be about older IBM computers.

Yes, it's called "Made By Sony".

Seriously, though, it happens all the time. Get a new one.

I have a PS2 and have had absolutely no problems with it. I leave it on stand-by mode all the time and even for extended periods of time. I guess I've just been lucky.

I just called them and that women didnt know what I was talking about(hard to explain the problem). Anyway I did ask her if it was safe leaving the game in the and she said I should take it out after playing each time. She also said it was best to power completely down.

Anyone elses power switch/input adapter move any?

I've had mine for about 6 months now. I always just flip the switch on the back of the unit. I never leave it in standby. I've never had any problems with mine. It's read every movie and game I've thrown in there without a problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't mess up. Mine is modded, but I doubt that makes any difference except the laser is working a little harder in mine than others.

I've had my PS2 for about 10 months and not suffered any problems reading any sort of discs. I turn my PS2 of completely when I've finished with it even if I intent to play it later that evening.

BTW, my power button DOESN'T move up and down at all.

I haven't had a problem with GTA3, so I don't care if it's defective or anything. mine is about 2 months old :D
