It's the way it was done. Here's this grunge rock band....supposedly with this anti-establishment attitude and they're the 1st ones to b!tch about losing money when they're already worth millions

Personally, I'd love to see the recording industry brought to its knees with more independent distribution of music by bands.

I don't know if you're aware of this but artists usually don't make jack on cd sales. Especially when they have to split it four ways. Also consider the fact that they have to pay the costs of their studio time and they burn alot of money for that. Iirc the black alblum was well over a mil in studio costs. So this many many millions that their making of cd sales really doesn't exist. It's all from tours/merchandise/etc.
I'm quite well aware that artists make nothing compared to the record companies. Hence my statement above that I'd love to see the recording industry fall onto its knees. Doesn't change the fact that the guys in Metallica are multi-millionaires.

Besides, wtf does their image have to do with pirating music? Is it ok to rape a girl if she looks like a ho? That's the dumbest justification for anything I've ever heard.

Yeah...that's a valid comparison to my statement.

"Hello, Cleveland! You rock! Fvck the man! Fvck Corporate America! Oh, and btw, be sure to buy our latest CD!!"

It's a more extreme comparison but the exact same thing. You're justifying a crime based on the "victims" image. If you can't see the parallel I'm sorry for you.

Posting to say while I loathe everything they did after "And Justice For All" it's hilarious to see people getting pissed off that their theft parade was aborted by this band.

Heh...the funny thing is, the only thing Metallica accomplished was causing programmers to come up with more innovative and harder-to-combat ways to steal their music...kind of ironic, in a way...like the cockroach you kill with pesticides, only to have the result be a super-cockroach you can no longer kill with said pesticides...

heh...and I love the posts by the 'ethics police'. As if they've never downloaded something...pfft...yeah right.

Napster was awesome...can't say how much time that saved in me getting the various U2 boots (which, btw, the band has long been a proponent of sharing boots).

I can personally guarantee I have more mp3s than you will ever see in your entire life. Way to jump to conclusions.

1) Nice to see you took this personally
2) I seriously doubt the accuracy of that statement. Post some statistics and we'll talk.
3) WTF does that even mean? That you've downloaded more MP3s than I'll ever see? If so, you're sure the pot calling the kettle black, eh?

No, I just don't complain when huge programs like napster get shut down. I also don't download 'crap quality' which is pretty much all those types of programs have. I also support artists immensly. Everyone tries to justify stealing music with a laundry list of bullsh!t that's just in reality a cop out. What I meant by my statement is that I certainly don't hide the fact that I pirate music. I don't make up excuses, I tell it like it is. I certainly won't get into any details about it because comparing epenises really doesn't strike my match if you know what I mean, but I'm sure whatever point you were trying to prove is long gone and you'll just endlessly quote what I say looking for loopholes and footholds to try and dig yourself out of the obvious mistake you made by saying I was part of the 'ethics police'.

I wasn't complaining either and I'm not 'pissed the theft parade' is over either. I just hated the way Metallica did it. They definitely cheapened themselves in my eyes and the eyes of many other people. And, for your 'epenises' comment...well...you 'tossed' it out there first and I just called you on it and now it's not your cup of tea to post stats....hmmmmm.

I used to use Napster to pick up old songs that reminded me of years gone by or old radio shows and my U2 boots. It was a neat little time-waster for a while. But, as you said, the quality is rather poor and I rely mostly on rips of my own CDs.

Haven't heard of that...will check it out. IRC and Usenet has served well before and after the P2P hysteria.

That was the whole point...I don't believe that anybody is whining that Napster is shut down anymore. All of the people I know were able to find alternative methods to continue downloading music. It isn't that big a deal. It's just funny that not only was Metallica's plan inneffective, it is also apparent that they did not think their course of action out at all.
