Someone told me mounting the HD upside down isn't good for it ... I was under the assumption it didn't matter how it was mounted just as long as it was mounted in place well.

can anyone tell me if it is true or someone talking sh*t?

No problem being upside down or veritical, so long as its within 5 degrees of the orientation it is in. (might be 10 degrees for some drives)

Ok, so the point is that the drive cannot/should not be at a (for example) 45º inclination?

I've seen many cases where the hard drive mounts upside down on inside top of the case. There should be no problems...

Correct. Any horizontal or vertical mounting is fine.

However, from what i remember from awhile ago, if you install the OS in 1 position, and then move the drive to another position, you can have probs, don't ask me how, but that was what was going around a few years ago..

That was way beack when, they've beefed up the stepper motors in the drives now, that shouldn't happen today.

Check out the last pic from this system from ARM
HERE

There put the bottom one upside down becasue it is hottest on the bottom of the drive.

ok cool I have my OS drive rightside up but I wanted to move the 2nd drive away from the OS drive so I put it upside down attached to the underside of my CDRW drive. Made sure it was nice and tight so I guess it should be good there.

thanks for the help guys :)

2nd this.

But, I would not mount a CD or DVD upside down :D (if you are groggy, think about it, with the tray open... your coffee will spill on the floor.)

If you have a long enough IDE cable, you can mount your hard drive in your pants.

Yeah, I'm a freak like that.
