Ayandeh, an Iranian news website, described one of the arrested men, Abbas Ghaffari, as "a man with special skills in metaphysics and connections with the unknown worlds".

I want to go down on record as saying I have voodoo dolls of GWB, Achmadinejad, and Various Ayatollahs I have been sticking pins into for years. It has failed to do anything for me, but hope springs eternal.

But dare we hope the famdamily feud between Achmadinejad and the equally nutty Mullahs can manage the feat of killing each other off.

So let is all save our pennies nickels and dimes, so we can send to Iran, a semi infinite supply of Voodoo dolls and pins.

are you saying religion in charge of countries is good?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I will take a stab at answering the question, in a modern world, nutty religious states ain't doing anything to help Iran, the Taliban of Afghanistan, or Israel.

Sir Bedevere: What makes you think she's a witch?
Peasant 3: Well, she turned me into a newt!
Sir Bedevere: A newt?
Peasant 3: [meekly after a long pause] ... I got better.
Crowd: [shouts] Burn her anyway!

Monty Python

I don't see what the big deal is? The guys a witch, Obama is Kenyan, kill them all and let God sort them out.

So, sorcery beliefs are any less silly than say, the Creation Museum? Psychic hotlines? Astrological advice for the White House? The need to say "I am not a witch!"? Banning Harry Potter? Ghost Hunters?

It's all based on "religion gone wild". It's not just an "over there" phenomenon in this great information age.

I agree, lets kill all the creationists, psychics, astrologers, ghost hunters, etc. just to be sure.

That sounds like mullah-speak for a lover of bearded folk - and I don't mean the hairy women. Next they'll accuse him of having a mastery of wands, and poking into secret dark places... Off with his head!

As this forum looks at the problem of nutty religious States as an internal prior cause, maybe we should better view clinging to religion as a symptom of a nation under stress from outside forces.

And the stronger the outside forces are, the more tightly that nation will be singing give me that ole time religion as they invent whole myths to explain the past glories they never had.

Normally such religious States have a shelf life of about 20 years before they wear out their welcome with their own people as their leaders inevitably turn corrupt. But if some outside forces keep attacking their country, the people rally around their leaders and such nuts can stay in power for almost forever.

IMHO, it almost perfectly explains why Saddam stayed in power and why the Mullahs of Iran do the same. And just to make FGD happy, it also explains why Hamas was strengthened by the Israeli embargo of Gaza without further mentioning Israeli religious trends.

He didn't say that. He said that if that was taken away they'd find another excuse. It's built into the species.

What species would that be? Our common species?

Let's not forget nearly half of the Republican presidential field believe that God is telling to run and one former Governor/VP candidate received a blessing as protection against witchcraft - yeah that one.

Specifically, I am saying that the ones accused of "summing djinn" are doing no such thing and are simply facing political persecution.

If this was an atheist Maoist or Stalinist state and they wanted to get rid of political enemies, they would "create" charges of them being supporters of the bourgeoisie and attempting to subvert the revolution to restore capitalism. In a religious state, false charges might be religious in nature.

Either way, it is a justification / excuse (likely imagined and known to be false by the leadership) to give the masses for disposing of a person in their way.

Yep...but at least our politicians get rid of their enemies by bringing back how they got a BJ at work once and smoked weed in college!
