I had forgotten they collect tax from NYS now...so I closed my browser and started to browse the various FS/FT threads on the intarweb. lol, I wonder how many more NYers are turning away from purchasing stuff on the web now.

And to those of you that will inevitably say I had to claim it on my taxes anyway...screw that. I didn't and will never care to claim taxes on stuff I purchased online.

Meh, just needed to rant a little bit.

I dunno. Can anyone provide some alternatives? I used to use pricewatch to find vendors back in the day, I wonder if they are still reliable...

Thats the thing, Newegg has absolutely no presence in NY. NY is requiring ALL online vendors to collect tax on their behalf.

What's funny is, either the company can comply now and be forgiven for past years of non-collection, or risk having to pay retro-tax for every year they didn't collect the tax for as long as they have been in business.

Got to love the power of the NYS government.

I bought something from newegg last night, got taxed. Strangely though, amazon is still not charging tax in ny EVEN THOUGH they said they would start doing it June 1st. May 3 orders on amazon since June 1st, no tax yet.

You were always supposed to pay tax though in any state on any item that's normally taxed.

I know, but I choose to ignore it. All I want is a stinking copy of Vista and a motherboard too...

I've been in California, so I always pay tax at Newegg... which sucks.

That being said I usually shop around for no tax

yeah but depending on where you are in Cali the shipping ROCKS. I can order something at Noon on a Monday and UPS will have it here Tuesday. Tax sucks but that is sweet.
