Having posted in the "Halloween" thread, I wandered to imdb to look at what other people are saying about the workprint and theatrical release of Zombie's 2007 remake.
Then I went to the page of the original film, and upon clicking on John Carpenter's profile, I realized with some amusement that I have all of his films (mostly on DVD) - from "Dark Star" onwards... I'm only missing "High Rise" (1978) ... I even found a DVD of "Elvis" at a flea market !
I admit that I'm a John Carpenter fan, but I didn't realize until now that he's the most prominently featured director in my 800+ DVD collection... followed by Polanski, Kurosawa and Fellini (the ones I usually swear by)...
I am by no means an obsessed completist: I will not get a film only because it's "made by..." or "starring..." ("Someone to Watch Over Me" comes to my mind as a horrible Ridley Scott film, although the same guy is responsible for my favourite film - hint, it came out in 1982!)
As far as Carpenter is concerned, I found "Christine" to be rather mediocre, and probably his weakest effort... but there's something about him, and the other three (more illustrious) colleagues I've mentioned earlier, that makes even mediocre efforts rise head and shoulders over other people's output.
That's just my opinion, of course
