Welcome to HP's Sales Consulting Chat Service . Please hold while we connect you to the next available HP expert.
You are number 1 in a queue of 1. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with Maria.
you: hello
Maria: Hello!
you: im interested in purchasing a color laserjet 3550
you: however, i also need an additional paper tray that does legal size paper
Maria: Glad to hear that.
you: the additional feeder for this model seems to only do letter size
you: can you confirm this?
Maria: Sure.
Maria: I'm checking...
Maria: I'm still checking..
Maria: Thank you for waiting.
Maria: The printer additional feeder seems to hold letter size too.
Maria: Would you like me to help you purchase this unit today or do you already have another way to purchase HP products?
you: how about the built-in tray (the 250 sheet tray 2)?
you: i need it to hold LEGAL
Maria: Yes, it can hold legal size papers.
you: ok, but not the additional tray i can add?
Maria: As the printer handles legal size papers it is possible for the built in trays to handle.
you: yes
you: but what about the additional tray
Maria: Even that tray can handle as mentioned.
you: that's not the impression im getting from your product description
you: i just found this
you: Tray 1- 3" x 5" to 8.5" x 14" Tray 2- 5.8" x 8.3" to 8.5" x 14" Tray 3- 8.5" x 11" and 8.3" x 11.7" (this tray is an option)
Maria: All the trays can be handle legal size paper.
Maria: So that answers your question.
you: bullsh*t
you: tray 3 says it can only do letter or a size
Maria: As mentioned the printer does handle 8.5 x 11 and 8.3 x 11.7 in size papers so the legal does come into that.
you: no
you: legal is 8.5 x 14
Maria: Yes, but it is supported in the tray 1 and tray 2/
you: tray 1 is the sheet feeder, tray 2 is the built-in tray
you: i was asking whether the additonal optional tray (tray 3) did or did not hold legal
Maria: Sorry about that, it does not hold legal size paper.
Maria: Can I help you with anything else?
you: no

Reads like you confused the hell out of her by jumping from the optional tray to the internal tray and then back to the optional tray.

If she doesn't know the difference between the internal tray and an additional tray, she shouldn't be working there.

If she doesn't know that legl is 8.5" x 14", she shouldn't be working there.

LOL

i read this, and expected something about a slow car, instead i get a dumb tech service person chat with an even dumber person trying to explain something that makes no sense till the end. 10/10 for wrapping the story up 5/10 for story telling method. 0/10 for cliffs

No, that's the price you pay for reading this forum.

LOL good reply

edit: If the website gave the paper sizes that the trays can handle, why the hell did you need to call in and ask?

I didn't call in, that was a copy and pasted log with one of their on-line support reps. I had to dig and dig through their site to find that quote on the paper sizes - I found it while I was chatting with her. I should have just dropped the conversation there, but I felt like following it through.

Thank god I found the correct answer, I would have been pissed to order that additional tray to find it was letter-only.
