We have become aware that both NVIDIA and competitor?s cards are experiencing similar problems that are described as ?flickering?, ?rolling lines? or ?quivering? in different forum posts. Here are a couple of examples:

NVIDIA has been investigating these problems; we are having a difficult time reproducing the issue. We are under the impression it is a noise issue, not a graphics card issue and is system specific.

In an effort to find a solution, we ask that anyone in the Bay area who is experiencing this issue on an NVIDIA GPU and would like to visit NVIDIA with the system in tow contact us. We can use the system to identify the problem and see if we can resolve the issue. You will be doing a favor to NVIDIA and a service to the community. We will also make sure you leave with an arm full of NVIDIA swag!

First come first served! We can not look at every system in the Bay area, sorry.

I personally don't have this problem but then again, I am using an LCD monitor. Never seen a company do this before. Kind of funny if you ask me.

Edit: Fixed the links within the quote.

ATi owners have this problem as well, just check the massive thread at Rage3D forums (lucky mine is ok :)),so no brand is 100% safe ;).

Fixed link.

2D Display is *perfect* using DVI out here...

I believe this is a VR anomaly when dib blit acceleration occurs during 2D ops. The aural subharmonic oscillatory artifacts are present and quite noticeable to some users. [EDIT] Nerdspeak translation: The card makes occasional squealing noises when scrolling in webpages and other stuff. :)

I almost wish I had one of those 5900 Ultras and the flicker problem just so I could visit nvidia and get the swag ;)

Oh, btw, the links in the quote don't work, you have to go to the first link and then click on one of the original links.

Maybe the solution (if found) will help us, Ati card owners, too? I hope we can find the source of the problem and be able to fix it once and for all.

I hope so, although it will be useless to us who already have cards with this issue.

Reading the original post, I agree with the noise issues Nvidia thinks it might be. I've seen it happen on many a system with cards too close together, slightly dodgy parts etc. That said, I have the problem on my Ati, yet when I switch over to my Voodoo5 I have a rock solid, crystal clear image at 60hz. Noise my ass. :p

Hmm, I have the BFG Technologies Asylum GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256MB, I think it's the first batch as I got it a month ago. Anyways, I'm using the SGI 1600SW 1600x1024 17.3" LCD using the Multi-Link adapter via DVI and it seems on two different systems, the text up to the Windows boot manager seems to have streaks in it like how a inkjet printer prints when the heads are clogged. With the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard, the ASUS Logo and BIOS setup is fine but all the other BIOS lines like the Adaptec SCSI, Promise RAID, Intel SATA RAID and the GeForce bios text all are messed up. Are you having the same problem?

Is it like this problem? I've been having this flickering problem on about every system I've been using. ATi and nVidia. Seems to be reproducable no matter what mobo I use when using DVI especially. Lots of noise in the background.

Hmm, we have the same monitor. I don't have that problem at all.... The problem I have seems to occur with only text before Windows loads. Even the ASUS BIOS is fine. With my GeForce3 Ti500, there are no problems. It only occurs with the GeForceFX 5900 Ultra.

People reporting display anomalies should check to see if they have a ground loop interference problem. When the display anomaly occurs, unplug the external power cable to your card. If the anomaly goes away, you have found your problem.

My AIW 9700 Pro has that problem, I can see faint horizontal lines scrolling up and down my 21" Trinitron monitor in games. I RMA'd my original card and the new card still has this problem, I'm sucking it up and dealing with it for now. My previous GeForce4 Ti 4400 did not have this problem. It's nice to know that nVidia is stepping up to the plate though and willing to work with the end users to find the problem.
