if you have a big crash, here's what you might expect to be forking out for as well has hospital bills and all the money you spent getting to the ring in the first place.

Base fee for attendance of armco truck: ?150
Removing damaged armco: ?10/metre (x2 or x3 or x4 for multiple-height sections)
Replacement armco: ?31/metre (x2 or x3 for double/triple height)
Removing damaged armco posts: ?5.10 each
Replacing armco post: ?39 each
Safety car attendance: ?82 per 30 mins (car + 2 people)
Circuit closure: ?1,350 per hour
Recovery truck: ?175 (inc VAT)
Hospital stay & air ambulance: Let's just say, do NOT go there without travel insurance! (Though a European Health Card - which replaced the E111 - may cover the hospital bit.)

Everything except the recovery truck is then subject to 19% VAT.

i think it would be wise to jus lather yourself in insurance policies before going.

apparently the highest fee paid for having a crash was 15,000 euros

its pretty interesting to note the two BMW M5's they use as ring taxi's

The Ring Taxis (there are two) are V10 BMW M5s with modified suspension and brakes, one of them driven by Sabine Schmitz (formerly Sabine Reck). Both come highly recommended, but Sabine is said to be faster. A lap costs ?180, but can take three passengers so it's pretty good value split three ways. In fact, it's excellent value as it is reputed that it costs BMW ?480 per lap. (Following an accident years ago in which either a wheel or suspension component failed, BMW changes the tyres every 10 laps, the brake-pads every 20 laps and the suspension every 50 laps. The cars are replaced annually.)

thats alot of tyres, breaks and suspension to get through in a year

the corrugated looking barriers that line the track. i have no idea why its called the armco but its just the crash barriers.

if you do have an off there, its very likely that you'll be paying for replacements because at alot of points on the 147 turn circuit there's precious little run off area.

was a formula 1 circuit

it hasnt been used in F1 for donkeys years. i think a modern F1 car might actually have a little trouble with that place now, given how bumpy it is. they'd never let it happen either, the speeds an F1 car could reach around that place would be very high, getting it wrong would likely produce a big crash....maybes even death of a driver or marshall because there is very little in run off areas around the track.

monaco has similar tolerances...but the speeds are much much slower.

LOL. This is precisely why foreigners should not post on American forums. Nobody understands what the hell is being said. ;) ;)

Heidfeld to tackle the Nordschleife

Thursday, March 15th 2007, 10:30 GMT

BMW Sauber's F1.07 will become the first Formula One car in 31 years to tackle Nurburgring's legendary Nordschleife circuit.

German Nick Heidfeld will be doing the driving in the event, scheduled for 28th April.

Heidfeld's run around the 22-km track will be the highlight of a full day in the Eifel mountains with the BMW Motorsport racing arsenal.

"This day is our way of saying thank-you to the fans for their support," said BMW boss Mario Theissen. "BMW is a longstanding partner of the Nurburgring.

"With BMW Driver Training, BMW Adventure World, our 'Ring Taxi' rides and the Performance Center all based at the circuit, this is a kind of second home for us - as well as the scene of victories in all disciplines of racing.

"The Formula One car's laps of the Nordschleife will be the highlight of a day devoted to BMW Motorsport.

"Nick's demonstration will not be about setting records, but a tribute to a unique race track - one which is inextricably linked to the heritage of BMW Motorsport."

The BMW Sauber team will be joined at the Nurburgring by drivers and cars from the World Touring Car Championship. There will also be a large exhibition featuring BMW racing machines.

BMW works drivers will take passengers on a tour of the Nordschleife in the BMW M5 Ring Taxi, a BMW 320si WTCC or the Z4 M Coupe.

Seeing how this track is patched like a quilt to hold off the potholes and cracks, I don't see what high standard your are thinking of. Even crappy Watkins Glen was better. And ANY Nascar oval is in better shape.

I would shell out the ?180 for a lap with Sabine in a heartbeat! I would love to see how she does in a M5 (seeing how she did in a van on Top Gear)
