What board did you have that took both Intel Celeron AND AMD Athlon processors?

upgraded the MOBO and the CPU.. wiseguy

He would have had to upgrade the RAM too. And more likely than not reinstall the OS, becuase the instruction set for an AMD is different to that for an Intel processor..

He took the laptop over to me, I put his old hard drive back in, formatted and re-installed Windows. I ran a full disk check on the drive and there was no problems with it. I told him to take the other drive they sold him back and demand a refund

Not to disagree with the gist of your post, but where exactly to do you suppose dictionaries come up with new words they add? If a word is used by enough people, who attach a common meaning to it, it very well could end up in a dictionary some day. What I find funny are people that insist a word isn't "real" unless it's in the dictionary (not you in particular). Merriam-Webster et al. aren't keepers of the English language.

That thought is a serious problem though. Many traditional understandings of language are completely wrong today because of that. It becomes a big issue when translating old texts into english as well.

I do understand that. Still, meanings of words (or at least some words) have changed constantly since they were first spoken. Plus, all of the new words that have been created. It's not likely to stop anytime soon.

Ironically a similiar situation got me interested in computers and was the catalyst for my career change. long story short small computer shop wants to charge me 400 dollars to repair "corrupt motherboard". i declined (because i didn't have the money) and took the unit home ($2800.00 Packard Bell Pentium 75).

The machine was down for months until one day i mentioned the problem to one of my neighbors (didn't know her very well at the time). she convinces me to allow her husband and son to take a look. "they build their own". i didn't think it was possible so i was a little sceptical. anyway they had the machine back to me the next day. i had a virus, that was all.

I asked them to show me a few things and that was the beginning of my interest in PCs...

Not really, both Celeron and AMD are x86 processors, so they both run the same instruction set. So Windows will run fine on both, only thing the technician have to do is run sysprep on the machine to remove all drivers before swapping out boards and that should bring Windows into a new install state and autodetect the new board's hardware.

The only difference in instructions are in some of the extensions such as 3dnow. Otherwise they are both x86 processors. If they had different instruction sets something compiled, such as winamp or any other executable, for intel would not work on amd and vice versa.
