Athlon 1gig is under $200 at pricewatch so I don't think Athlon 950 is underpriced

I think Mule is trying to start some sort of INTEL v AMD argument in here. Otherwise, he's just plain nuts! :)

Intel vs. AMD

Intel

Price to performance:
Stability
Reliability
Compatibility
Just forget about that little recall a few months ago, hey atleast they recall faulty parts unlike AMD.

AMD

Faster floating point operations when it works.
Unstable
Unreliable
Uncompatible
Plus if you ever have to switch out fans on an AMD just buy a new processor it will break.

Intel all the way, pick up a celery 566, a golden orb, and let the good times roll at 900mhz.

These were the prices when I checked earlier this evening, probably will continue to drop since AMD is supposed to announce new prices on or about Dec. 13.

TBird
1.2 $284
1.1 $239
1.0 $195
950 $169
900 $148
850 $145
800 $131

Duron
800 $86
750 $68
700 $59
650 $44
600 $49

Duron 600 already officially discontinued, when new prices come out the 650 will probably be discontinued.
Probably will also see new speed grades announced about same time.:D

Xanth and Mule---FYI
I have an AMD Duron 600 running at 750 with no extra fans and it would go higher--I had it to 950 with a 92mm sitting on top of it. I have never had a crash with Windows ME on it. It also runs flawlessly with Linux Mandrake 7.1 and Windows 2000. It and my Abit KT7-Raid with a Visontek Geforce DDR, cheap aztech modem, creative DVD decoder card + DVD Drive, 3COM 10/100, Soundblaster Live x-gamer, and Ricoh Burner all work perfectly together. I think the days of incompatibility are gone with AMD. The only thing I haven't tried in this machine are scsi devices. I wanted to build a cheap system and did this system for about 800 bucks thanks to this forum. Anyway, try it out before bashing it or read a review by someone who knows what they are talking about.

xanth ... do you own an athlon/duron?
have you used one for more than a few months?
are you sure they are unstable?
seem pretty stable to me? and i could get like 10 for the price of an intel!
some people don't know what they miss...
iknow intel has their history...but sometimes...things change...

Well, since the athlon is a competitor with the PIII and 4 the question you should also ask yourself is "Is the PIII and 4 overclockable?".
