LOL; ATI Changed their Roadmap this Week

OK So I am sure many of you read our last article about the ATI roadmap.

The most current roadmaps claim that "internet sources" "compromised" their chipset launch, so the launch for RV515 was moved to Q1'06. R520XL is still the date quoted in the original article, and RV530 didn't move much either.

Sounds like a pretty weak excuse to me, but hey companies have moved entire product launches past the holiday season because of news articles before (Ha.)

I love ATI to death, but I hope complete confusion among the OEMs selling the cards is not a tactic they use for every generation of products.

they sure seem to be having problems with this gen. Oh well shall see what australia brings, though may just be another crossfire launch.

why does your article say:

Since RV530 and RV515 are actually launching first..

yet you list:

R520 "XL" Single Slot Early September
RV515 "XL" Single Slot Late September
RV530 Crossfire Single Slot Late October
?

Apparently there is confusion abound.

ATers probably won't care for the RV515 too much, unless its a killer overclocker with a killer price (I don't see the stock card being very attractive as is) - but this definately is not good news for ATI.

I think he explained it before, however he didn't make it crystal clear. I think he might have implied we'll see a paper launch or perhaps the "true" R520 won't be available first, as we're getting the XL and not the XT (at least I'm assuming XT > XL)

The map shows the XL coming a whole month+ ahead of the XT and Crossfire. I'm not sure what it all means. Perhaps ATI knows nVidia has a 7800Ultra waiting and is saving the XT for that, the R520 XL competing with the 7800GTX and the R520Pro competing with the 7800GT

But unless a single R520 is as fast as SLI'd 7800's, it seems like a lost cause not to launch R520 with Crossfire. Perhaps they figure something tangible yet not complete is better than a paper launch. Perhaps they'll hard launch the R520 XL and paper launch Crossfire numbers? But that would also be somewhat silly, as you'd have your R520 and no Crossfire board...unless those are available without mastercards...I dunno.

Well ATi just keeps disappointing. I really hope they get their stuff in order because these delays are going to continue to destroy their stock value (what's left of it anyway). Once nVidia completes the 7800 value line ATi will start bleeding money from lack of sales. I hope they really weren't a one hit wonder with the R300 core because it sure seems that way lately.

The thing is that, the architecture seems to be continually evolving before launch. I have a feeling that within the next year we'll see some revolutionary designs from ATI.

I wonder what ATI's burn rate is. You know, what it costs to run the company on a month to month basis. Maybe they have a saboteur in the company. Yeah that's gotta be it. You know, the same one that used to work for valve.... ;)

Just a WildAssGuess, but I'm sure higher ups can't be happy at ATI.

They heard I was talking smack about their re-designs and delays and figured they'd best take no chances. (lol)

I think "Internet sources compromised our launch" is like saying "The dog ate my homework" if you're a business?

Probably not given they're being sued for artificially inflating the value of their stock so they could dump it and cash out?

Malfeasance, if proven to be the case, is a strong indicator more is wrong@ATI than most have speculated or even imagined.

Mostly clock speed increases between tape outs, if that's what you're getting at.

Well it makes me glad I ordered a 7800GT yesterday instead of waiting to find out what ATi are doing.
They need to get their act together if they want to keep their faithful (I love ATi, but after these delays and stupid things I just can't be bothered to wait).

Lonyo... The 515 is a value part. The 520 release date HAS NOT CHANGED. It should have no effect on whether you made the right choice or not.

Except delays and delays lead to a lack of belief in the dates for ANY part they have mentioned.

Anand was going to give me my own blog.... but....

We have people so deep inside all of these companies now that I don't mind just posting it out in the open anymore ;)
