lol at people who wait in line at the post office

I can't help but laugh every time I see a line at the post office.

Why would anyone do that?

Stamps? You can buy them anywhere. Shipping? Print your postage online and they'll come to your house and pick it up, free.

Some people are so out-of-touch, it seems.

Pick up mail, order mailbox key replacement, mail hold and pickup, few example of off-beat stuff you need to do sometimes. Also not everyone had means and tools and expertise to weigh and print shipping labels, many people don't have money or the brains, that's the reason for the kind of govt we have...

You should look in the mirror.

what are these people doing then?

I'm only in line for certified mail. I need that for dealing with the US govt (mostly the IRS). I need/want that signature proving I submitted it to the US post office. Legally, that's the same as personally handing to an IRS employee and constitutes proof.

You can also use that self-serve machine for packages/weight that most (if not all) post offices have.

My favorite is when there's a huge line a Fedex and you walk in with your prepaid package, hand it to one the employees and walk away. The dirty looks are priceless, especially around the holidays.

You can only print postage from the website if you use priority mail. And everywhere to buy stamps is a bit of an overstatement. There is only one other store at around here that sells stamps--meijer. Granted there is generally no reason to wait in line since the APCs are usually free.

On Monday I'll be standing in line to pickup an Amazon oder shipped to my post office box. It is the season that their lock boxes get overrun and just put cards in boxes to come collect at the counter.

There, now you have a little enlightenment.

Would a certificate of mailing do the same? $1.50 Switched to those for my notice of defaults. SC says I have to have proof I mailed it. Not proof they got it.

Probably there to pickup something or send a parcel. I never heard of them coming to pick a package up, and if there is such service it probably cost's extra. There are various post office locations throughout town, the one my stuff goes to is at Shoppers Drug Mart, so it's fairly convenient to go to it anyway, as I usually end up needing something at the store too.

I've also never seen stamps for sale outside the post office. Though, I bought a roll of 100 a while back, I will probably be dead before I use all those up. :awe:

Around here stamps are overpriced just about everywhere I go.

And shipping packages internationally usually requires a scale/estimate.

Certified mail. Money orders. Mail hold and pickup, etc.

My least favorite reason for going to the post office - because they were too lazy to deliver my packages and I knew they were there, so I went to pick them up. Should have complained to the postmaster but given that it's a smaller one they'll probably just shrug it off. Although I guess it wasn't relevant to the OP, because there was no one in front of me so I didn't wait in line.

I have a mailbox.

which does not require me to wait in line. :awe:
You still have to wait for the mail person to pick up what you're sending out. You can schedule for pickup up, but it being Christmas season they can be late.
Leave it in the front door and take the risk of it being stolen. :hmm:

People line up so they can be assured that it doesn't get stolen and perhaps pay something extra like tracking and signed delivery.

I gave a flipping letter to the mail carrier and it never arrived. Who knows what she did with it.

If I have a package I need to go out I'm going to make sure it's in the hands of the post office and a receipt that says they got it, not just some receipt online. They don't even always stop by my house anyway so it might not even go out that day unless I drive it down to the post office. So if I paid online and they already delivered or don't come that day then it won't go out that day.

Pick up oversize boxes that shipped to my PO Box is one.

Troubleshooting with shipping issues for my personal business is another one.

And so on and on. Not all problems can be solve via internet.

OP and others like him need to get out to the real world more often.
