How do people accidentally CC an email to "all employees". normally (and in our case) it starts with underscore.

Today I just found out how much extra funds the company has. We better get a good bonus this year. :p I was SO not suppose to see that information, and neither was any of the people who got that email. Stupid people lol.

Has anyone else ever received a super confidential email due to some noob mistake like that?

Yeah, they accidentally sent out the bonus structure for all the top employees to the entire IT department. Their peers didn't even know people at their same level got 10-20K bonuses (because they never got one). People were a little miffed.

People shouldn't even be able to e-mail all employees unless they have a good reason to... but I guess someone who has the information you're speaking of might have a good reason to need to e-mail all employees (for other things)

Do a reply to all with "take me off the list" or "everyone stop replying"

Hasn't happened at work specifically, but it has happened on a listserv (emailing list) for teachers across the state. A couple of idiots were having a very confidential conversation about a student & emailing 100's (1000's?) of teachers their conversation, which was also archived online for anyone to see.

Where I work the all mail users DL is locked down so only certain people can send to this DL. I heard from our IT Director that before they locked it down over 10 years ago that people used to announce when they where going on vacation etc. and then other people would do reply all and it just started getting out of control. We have had a couple of SPAM e-mails come in sometimes to groups of global DL's that are not restricted but is going to multiple DL's so it is hitting 10k+ mailboxes. You then have idiots doing a reply all to a obvious SPAM message to take them off the DL. Luckily with Exchange the messaging team can go into the Exchange cluster and cut off these messages now and remove them from everyone's mailbox.

Yeah they should really do that where I work. Thing is the company I work for which has maybe 100ish employees is owned by a HUGE company. It's even happened where someone sent an email to "all employees of said HUGE company. Yeah, lets just say we can hear a disturbance in the universe as hundreds of exchange servers croak. :D You of course have everyone doing reply all.

I've had that happen with personal emails. I had this one guy CC an email to me, and the bitch we were talking about. It was very classified info, and I don't know how the hell something like that happens. He isn't very computer literate, but still... You have to go through effort to CC a mail. If you do almost nothing things will work properly :^S

I have suspected she set it up that way for spying purposes, but I think he just screwed up somehow.

Yeah I really don't get how people do this by accident. For example all employees is "_all Employees". You have to actually type "_all [space]" before you even get that list. Even then, if you've never sent to it before, you have to hit enter, then double click it.

sent to all instead the OP.
