The new 800 Mhz Intel Celly with it's 100 Mhz fsb is a flop! Barly tieing the Duron 600 Mhz in almost all tests!

*Laughs at Intel until he pees his pants*

just a crazy worthles post... Everyone already knows that the Duron is a better chip on its own. Paired w/ one of its integrated chipsets though, its a whole different story (at least for the time being). Anyway, its a dumb post.

At this point the celeron is really only good for people with a bx chipset that want to overclock. Otherwise if you are building a budget system go with AMD. End of story.

AMD has got to do something about the heat. Those things run HOT.

No wonder companies avoid the Athlons and Durons in laptops.

As for the review I was a bit confused as to why PIII and Aschlong chips were not included. It would be a valid comparison, because my guess is that a Duron 800 runs as fast as a PIII 800E, and an Athlon would just kick @zz. My Celly 880 does blow away my PIII 600E for performance though. The Celly 100 is still a great upgrade option for some upgraders who want to keep their BX motherboard and who don't want to overclock, but for most I think I'd recommend a PIII 700E instead. And of course, for the overclocker on a budget upgrading a BX system, the Celery 66 is still king.

Eug,

Wrong on the heat deal. 750 Duron's produce 22.9watts of heat. That compares very well with the 18watts or so of a Celery. Now, if you OC the Duron and up the voltage its a different story but Durons produce much less heat than the TBIRD.

I disagree, the Duron generates a lot of heat, but it's a much better chip than the Celeron in performance. Recently, I've heard that the Duron has sold poorly compare to the Celeron, I wonder if that's true.

yes, the Duran is selling poorly because manufacturers like to use cheap integrated mobos and the celeron has plenty of those, but the Durons just recently got some cheap integrated mobos.

Thanks Spook, I should have posted the link when I posted earlier. And by the way Eug p3 550e's OC much better and perform much better than celly 566's.

I don't think it's true that the Durons are so hot- thermalweise. The first Athlons were like 50W+, but with the die shrunk the Durons were drawing 22W. Check the stats, they are there to find...

Eug,

I have noticed my PIII600e spanks my Cel533@850, let alone running at 800. I am very dissapointed with my cel. I put a cel533@850 in my work comp and was suprised how close in performance it was to the PIII450 kat that was in it.

OK, that was not my fault. The server said there was a too high traffic load but it double posted anyway.

AMD has got to do something about the heat. Those things run HOT.

Not to mention the fact that AMD CPUs fry themselves when they get too hot because they don't have thermal protection.

intel has built in thermal protection now? amd's burn up because of human error.

Ummm they don't fry unless you OC them or try cooling them using meathods AMD does not endorse - end of story.

I've seen a few do-it-yourself amateurs fried their processors because of OC (I fried my 300MHz Celeron a while back). If you don't know what your doing, leave it to the professionals.

goophie> yeah, AMD isn't making a profit.. but they are implementing super brain control technology.. their plan is to create a netwerk of superior processors that can unify to take over the whole world through the use of Alien Mental Defragging.. or something.. go AMD!!! Take me to the mother land.
