Anyone think that affordable (Ha!) h.264 hardware encoders will break into the consumer market anytime soon?

I've seen the professional stuff, but it is waay out of even the prosumer league.

What are you using? Nero Recode? I had a problem playing files encoded by this codec in anything other than nero showtime :(

Yeah, I don't like the videos made from nero recode. Moonlight OneClick compressor is better. And hopefully when QT7 for Windows is released, it will get even better.

sure of it. plenty of decoder chips already being developed/made..sure encoders are in the works

i had this problem too. i messe with the settings and it worked. there was one option you had to change to make it work in players such as vlc. i forget the exact setting becuase it has been a while since i used it but it does work.
