lojack

I got a lojack system installed in my car today and now got a question. I read in the manual that the system is always in receive mode. Can cops with a warrent go to lojack company and using my lojack system to track me without having to follow me like they usually do. Or is that not how the system works?

The risk of LOJACK

The risks with this system should be obvious to the RISKS reader.
Suppose big brother wants to arrest Joe Citizen (to assist the
ministry of information with certain inquiries or course). Big
brother simply broadcasts his LOJACK code and the cops bring 'em in.
Or just keeps an eye on him. I think that the LOJACK people control
the data and in theory it doesn't work that way _today_.

but, i think you are being paranoid, are you a big mafia guy? important high level drug importer? Saddam?

You think the cops really care about mafiosos, drug dealers, murderers, and Saddam?

Nah man. Right now, the biggest thing on their to-do list is track down the MP3 piraters. I imagine Ylen has good reason to be afraid.

yes you do pretty nice one actually

in the same token, how about your cellie? some have gps tracker, and who knows if someone wants to bring you in, they could track you pretty well that way too.. even better then the lojack, since more peeps have cells than lojack equipped cars.

I'm sure if the "big brother" wanted to monitor your ass, you have bigger things to worry about then what if my lojack will help them track me down? and if lojack as a company were found to be leaking such info what's the likelyhood that it'll be under wraps? not to mention a horrible way to run a business based on customer's trust.

but then again, maybe the matrix has you.

Yep, you sure do. My wife got Lo-Jack installed in her car as part of some deal from the car dealership (She has a 2002 Kia Spectra, BTW) and that counts for something with the ins. co.
