Logtiech Z560s...still good?

I recently saw several articles saying the Logitechs aren't really 400W and so on...are they still good speakers though?

I'll never even approch full volume on these ancient Altec Lansings, so I'm sure 400W of power is a waste on me. But, the cut in true power output doesnt affect sound quality and 3D positioning effects and so forth, right??

IF the Logitechs aren't really too great anymore, what is? (for a person willing to spend up to say, 150.)

eLiu,

I have the z-560's, and even before reading any reviews, I put no stock in their claim about 400 watts. Lemme put it this way, I've got a home theater system, Pioneer Elite receiver 80wx5RMS powering Paradigm Monitor 5's and Mini Monitors, with a Paradigm Sub putting out 150w RMS. Now according to spec the Logitech sub is putting out more power(188w), and the satellites are close behind(53wx4) my main setup. But come over to my house and tell me which setup is louder, and sounds better (it's not the Logitechs) Point being, these figures meant nothing to me when I bought the speakers. What did matter is that I heard great things about the 560's (not being able to listen to them in person before buying.) The truth is, they sound fantastic for PC speakers, and will save you quite a bit over the marginally better Klipsch's. I'll leave the supposedly overblown power ratings to Logitech's marketing and legal dept., but I'll keep my 560's.

Mine sound every bit as good now as they did before the article came out, hehe. IMHO, they're a great set of speakers.

when i fire up the ch47 chinook in operation flashpoint it sounds like the world is coming to an end, and feels like it too 🙂

they shake the place and you can feel the air being pushed from the sub, they kick total ass.

They are awesome speakers no doubt. They do not put out 400 watts as they claim =). but you're never gonna get near that.

also, i think the sub rocks, but my Klipsch 4.2's hit harder =).

There are ways for the manufacturer to get around this..... go to your local computer store and check out the speakers.

You'll find a tonne of "amplified PC speakers - 300W": you really think they drive 300W?

No way. Logitech does it just like everyone else.

yeah, but my Logitech's cost half as much... 😀

I've rarely set the bass control to more than all the way down.

Well, logitech doesn't use peak powers like those cheaper speaker brands, at least not to that extent. If you were to put the logitech's into peak power, it would definitly be into the thousands by ratio, as you can find "600 watt surround" systems at local dealerships which are really only 20 watt or so...

I only go above ~1/8 total volume on my Z560's when I feel like annoying half the people in the dorm(yea, dorm life sucks, sometimes).

I do believe 400W is a little on the high side, but these things definitely put out more power than Klipsch 4.1's.

They're the best computer speakers I've heard besides the Klipsch 5.1's, and those were pretty close and over twice as expensive.

even if they don't put out 400w, they put out at least 200w and that's more than enough for my floormates... 😉

these speakers sound awesome... i would definitely recommend you get a set.
