I am currently looking for a new mouse and I particularly like the MX518 and G5. I play alot of first person shooters and it seemed like these would be the best choice for a new mouse. My question is how much better, in reality, is the G5 from the MX518. Do the upgrades really make a difference? Is it worth an extra $15 or so to get the G5? Thanks in advance.

i have the mx518 and couldnt be happier with it. if you're that picky with sensitivity, then the extra 15 might be worthwhile, along with some other features it comes with.

i think you should get the $10 logitech optical from newegg.

i bought a mx510, and it's a mouse, just like every other. i don't even use the extra buttons.

The only real difference between mouses is the jump from a MX510 to a MX 518. There's very little difference between the G5 and MX 518. The MX 518 has the second forward button.

I'm in the same boat as you and I need a new mouse. I'm going to get the MX518 because I've read from several sources that the G5 has problems working on dark surfaces. I use the func 1030 mouse pad and I found out that the G5 doesn't work at all on the side that I use therefore the decision was a no brainer for me. MX518 all the way.

Currently using the MX1000.

MX1000 is nice, but the MX900 pwns all. Too bad few people realize the superiority of Bluetooth.

MX518 is great. I use the 510, and I'm satisfied. I have had a 500 for about 3 years now for my laptop and I use a 510 for my desktop... Both great. And yes I have a Func 1030 also.
