Edit: I would like to personally thank all of the ATOT folks who submitted their ideas for this logo contest. It was very difficult to choose one, as there were many great submissions. In fact, we did not make a final decision until about 15 minutes prior to the 12pm deadline (Couldn't post the result, though, cause I had a meeting). So without further ado, the winner of The Kid's Hut Logo Contest and the Grand Prize of $75 is:

Sabot's Smiling House! (lower right rendition)

Again, it was a tough choice due to many great submissions. I thank everyone for taking the time to put something together.

Congratulations Sabot!

Well, the mods have cleared the way for me to post a Logo Contest thread.

Here's the background: My wife and I are purchasing a daycare with a scheduled close of August 5th. We have decided to forgo the current business name and use our own. Therefore, we need to come up with a new logo that will be used on signage, the building, advertising, student t-shirts and employee shirts. My wife and I have little artistic aptitude (hello, I'm an accountant, not a painter). So, I'm asking for submissions for a logo.

Contest Rules

1) The contest ends at 6:00PM CDT Sunday, July 25th.

2) You may submit any number of entries. All entries will be considered if received by 6:00pm CDT Sunday, July 25th. All submissions after that time will not be included in the judging.

2a) The winner will be announced by noon CDT, July 26th.

3) All entries must be submitted in this thread. You may also submit to me by PM, but that does not waive the requirement to post the submission in this thread.

4) Unlike past logo contests, this one is legit. A winner will be announced and the prize WILL BE AWARDED!

5) Naming of the winner and awarding of the prize does not guarantee that the design will ultimately be used as the official business logo (though chances are reeeeeaaalllll good that it will be).

6) The winner must provide the winning submission through email vector graphic based format file. The prize money will not be released until I receive this file.

7) The winner releases all rights to the logo after receipt of prize money. I, my wife and the business entity that may use the logo are awarded all rights to the winning logo. The winner agrees that no royalties, fees, dues, or other like compensation will be required, nor forthcoming, once the file is submitted and the prize money transferred to the winner's account.

8) Failure of the winner to provide the required file will result in forfeiture of the prize money. If this occurs, a new winner will be selected from the remaining submissions. The re-selection date is at the discretion of myself and my wife.

9) The prize money will be transferred via paypal only. The prize money will be held by a third party "escrow agent" until a release notification is received by me. The release notification will only be issued onced the required file is received.

10) There will only be one winner. A substitute winner will be selected if initial winner cannot fulfill requirements as listed above.

11) A winner WILL BE PAID. I'm not cheap enough to steal a logo, unlike some past members.

12) My contest, my rules. If you can't work with them, then please don't enter the contest.

Pertinent Facts of the Contest

1) The business name is "The Kid's Hut". The name must be used in some form or fashion in the logo.

2) The business is a daycare, so keep that in mind when creating the logo.

3) EagleKeeper has been selected as the 3rd party "escrow agent". If you're not comfortable with him being cast in this position, then please don't enter the contest.

4) The Prize is $75. edit: Additionally the winner will be listed in my sig as "My Temporary Hero" - at least until I find a new one :D

5) We are open to the colors. Our initial preference was that the colors should sit well on a Navy Blue shirt. But the shirt color can always be changed if we like the color scheme used. Also, I think the colors can be tweaked once the winner is announced.

I suck at making logos, but I just wanted to jump in and say that I know this will go well for your family. You seem like the kind of people that just deserve good things to happen to them.

Thanks, man, I appreciate that. And I hope it does go well cause we have a lot vested in it.

About the daycare's name, do you mean for it to be a single kid's hut?
Yeah, I was just about to ask the same question:

Do you want it to be a hut for kids? In that case, "The Kids' Hut" would be correct.

Good question.

And if we would have thought about it we would have issued it's Assumed Name as The Kids' Hut. But, as it stands, the DBA is registered as The Kid's Hut. So we will need to go with that.

Hmm, you could always have a mascot known as "the kid." Then it would make sense.

Hmm... i'm not sure where to go with this. I'd like to see some other entries.

I'm toying around with this idea. It's in very early stages obviously, but you can probably tell me if its not the direction you're looking for. I didn't compensate for the ' in Kids so if it's a neccesity just let me know.

Not bad.

I will hold off on critiqueing as I don't want to be perceived as giving an advantage of one contestant over another.

I had a typography teacher explain to me everything wrong with comic sans this year - trust me, you don't want to use it. :)
