I can't seem to find any reviews.
Is z5500 worth the price difference? ($305 vs. $391) Canadian.

Thanks.

I believe the 5500's are the new and improved 680's, so you would assume the 5500's are better, so you know what assumption is worth. There are some user reviews up at Newegg, and one guy stated that he had 680's, went to Promedia 5.1's, and now has teh 5500's. He stated that he liked teh 5500's the best. I know that's not much help, but I am satisfied with my meager effort. :)

The Z5500s have a larger 10" sub compared to the 8". That's the largest in the computer speaker market now I believe. I believe the sats and the decoder/controller unit have also been upgraded, though I'm not exactly sure of the details.

the bass on the 680's is already powerful enough, the 10 inch sub is not necessary, but if the highs and mids are improved...

Perhaps I'm an idiot, but if I have a very powerful sub on the 2nd floor of my house and it booms very loudly, could it disturb the foundation of the 2nd floor thus causing damage which could cause the floor to break?

AFAIK, floors like that are usually made using thick wooden joists and other wooden flooring material. Unless your wood is rotting from water damage or is being eaten away by termites, I doubt you'll have any problems of that nature.

no, don't be silly, its not always about power boom boom boom. its about quality. getting true deeper bass, accurate and not formless boom boom of smaller woofers.
