If i want to use digtal out, with my audigy 2 zs...

should i hook up the analog also or just digital out on the audigy?

any thoughts you seasoned z680 owners

whats a opical cable cost? anything i should know? do i need a cable running from dvd to sound card?

thanks

Just digital. Be sure to enable digital output on your soundcard. You can get an optical cable for around $15 on eBay. For movies, you don't need any special cables from your DVD-ROM to yoru soundcard. The various sound formats go through the data cable. However, for CD audio (music CDs), you usually have to connect the digital output on your drive to the input on your soundcard if you want digital CD audio.

Come on, now, no cross posting! :|

See my response to your thread in GH.

PS: The ZS doesn't have an optical output and you don't need to connect an audio cable from the DVD drive for any reason unless you disable "digital audio" on the drive in Windows.

yea the zs has a digital out but it doesnt have optical out....... and anyways the digital to analog converter on the audigy is better than the one on the speakers. therefore u will get better sound quality hookin it up straight analog from your soundcard.

Also, the DAC converter on your sound card is better than the converter on your CDROM drive. Don't even use an analog cable from CDROM to soundcard for audio CD. And disable all the inputs that you don't use - this should reduce the noise
