Not hot, they have always been $50.
If you plan on listening to any music, I'd opt out of these tincan speakers and get some decent 2.1 speakers for $50-60

But 5 is more than 2!

I disagree.

These are great speakers for a good price. If you take a moment to find and use your system's equilizer to tune your set up to match the speakers and room then these sound great for music, dvd & games.

no EQ is going to fix the tinny highs and the boomy bass....

These speakers were great when they just came out, but now there are so many better alternatives that these speakers should just die and be discontinued.

dvd audio is 5.1
And what good is that when there are no highs and the music is washed out by boomy bass?

And these speakers are???

That's ok, he has a personal vendetta against Logitech speakers. Anyone who actually gives a damn about their audio wouldn't touch a speaker set under $100, period. For what it's worth, I think the Z640's are much better than the 2.1 speaker set he recommended in the other Z640 thread where he went off on Logitech speakers. If you really expect super awesome quality out of any set of speakers under $100, you're kidding yourself. It's all personal taste in speakers in that price range.

Skipped it last time and this time got the best of me. I opted in for the Circuit City deal.

Nice speakers from what I've seen (heard) so far. Balancing the positions for the 5.1 can be a little tricky depending on your sound card software, but this set still provides very good sound. Highly recommended.

BTW - After reading other reviews, 2 comments:

1. I found that the length of cables included are indeed more than adequate.
2. If you stare directly into the bright blue LED power indicator, it will indeed fix those pesky cataracts.

🙂

amazon has it for 54.99 ship free.
if you factor in the rebate and tax at your local CC, you can get it over @amazon

Anyone who gives a damn and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty has made DIY speakers for under $100. Price doesn't have to be an indication of quality...

Still need an amp to run them, which adds another $150-200 to the price.

i got them today from newegg. i opened them up, and i must say, they took a while to get out of the box. so many plastic covers on them. to start with, they look really cool. the center channel looks awesome with all the knobs on it and the blue led. the sub looks mean and powerful. the other speakers are cool lookin too, all havin the same base on the bottom.

how they sound? they sound great. i can't arrange them to be in surround sound, but they still sound great. as far as them being great speakers? i can't really say. i have a 6.1 onkyo system downstairs that i use for movies. they don't sound anything like them, but hey, they are computer speakers. i listen to the mp3's some and sometimes watch a clip on the net. i upgraded from a pair of altec lansing speakers that were 7 years old, they were still goin great, but i thought since i had some extra money i'd try somethin new.

These are great speakers. Period. The price cannot be beat for what you get.
BTW: I had to put tape over the blue light and use black marker to make it less annoying.
BTW: Call of Duty rocks with these too.
