Logitech z560, Audigy and PowerDVD settings

blahsome

Hi, can anybody here help me on some specific settings for my logitech z560 system?

I have an OEM Creative Audigy card; for its Surround Mixer, should I use "4 speakers" or "5.1 speakers?" (I'm asking because z560 is a 4.1 system, so if we take it literally, it should be neither.)

For PowerDVD 4.0, I've essentially got the same choices--either "4 speaker" or "6 speaker". 😕

Also on PowerDVD 4.0, if one chooses 4 or 6 speakers, there is an advanced option for

(Dolby Pro Logic II For Movie Watching or For Music Listening)

Should I enable one of these? I thought my system supported Dolby Digital. What's this Dolby Pro Logic II then?

Sorry for asking these newbie questions, and I appreciate anybody's inputs.

Thanks a lot!

dolby pro-logic 2, is, as far as I know, a system to emulate dobly digital 5.1 on a dobly surround setup. (i.e you probably shouldn't use this)

I believe you should use the 4 speaker setup. I have a similar problem when setting the preferences for my Live! card. I have the Creative FPS1800's, a 4.1 setup. The option closest to my setup is quadrophonic, which doesn't include a subwoofer.

Nice set up.

Anyway, in the Audigy Surround Mixer, select 4 speaker set up. I believe the Logitech z560s do it's own bass management so when lower frequencies need to be produced, the signal crosses over to the sub (therefore, you don't need to worry about not having an option to select 4.1 because the sound card doesn't need to do the bass management). On that same note, if you decide to select 5.1 mode (feel free too--it won't hurt anything or help anything), don't worry about adjusting or enabling bass management features that the surround mixer provides as again, they are useless for your z560s (so is the center channel volume boost).

Under PowerDVD 4.0, select either 4 or 6 speaker...DO NOT ENABLE THE CROSSOVER or bass management option (for the same reason I stated earlier). DO NOT ENABLE DOLBY PROLOGIC II for movies (enable for music). ProLogic II basically makes any sound source "5.1" by way of a matrix center channel and taking the mono surround and putting it to stereo.

So for DVDs, watch them in DD 5.1 surround sound (or DTS since you have that option) WITHOUT ProLogic II. For music, enable ProLogic II...listen to a CD and enjoy the power of ProLogic II.
