So, I am thinking of buying a z5300 system. I was wondering if with these speakers it is possible to use S/PDIF or whether one has to use three jacks at all costs. I have looked at several reviews, but it was not mentioned anywhere. Further, do you have any suggestions of speaker systems that might be better, but in the same price range?
Thank you for your help.

i'm pretty sure it uses S/PDIF, however you should make sure which cable format it uses (some use coax, and some use the small headphone-sized cable, and others still use some other strange format).

I don't think they do use S/PDIF. I think thats why the Z680s command such a high price compared to them. They have anolog inputs (RCA red and white, because it says you can plug a console directly into them). I'm not totally 100% certain on this, because I don't own them myself.

I love my Z-5300's, they are awesome speakers! They do not use the S/PDIF connection, and are analog only. I have them plugged into a Creative Audigy ZS Platinum and they sound better than my old Klipch V.2 4.1 speakers! I would highly recommend them.
